HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES
Complying with the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act can be a difficult and expensive process.
The Act, its associated group standards, COPs and the transfer notice can be difficult to interpret and asset owners are often faced with conflicting compliance requirements. Failure to assess and incorporate the Act can lead to inadequate project budgets, noncompliance issues, significant rework cost and at worst an environmental/health and safety incident.
MTL’s multidisciplinary team of chemical, process, mechanical and structural engineers have considerable experience in navigating the technical compliance requirements of the HSNO Act. As engineers, we are also in the unique position of being able to offer real world, cost effective solutions to meet these requirements.
MTL has completed HSNO assessments which have been used to deliver projects ranging from simple hazardous substance storage tank modifications right through to a complex waste treatment facility that deals with multiple combinations of incompatible substances stored on the same site.
Clients for such projects have included Watercare Services, EnviroWaste, Fonterra, Fletcher Aluminium, Genesis Energy, Vector OnGas.
