PROJECT:
57 MW Diesel Fuel System.
MTL ROLE:
MTL was engaged by Fonterra to provide engineering design and project management services for the implementation of a bulk diesel storage and reticulation network. The diesel fuel system provides Fonterra with security of energy supply to the Kauri site and enables production during a gas outage. The diesel fuel reticulation system includes a 29,000L bulk diesel storage tank with a 9,400 L/h 1.2km fuel ring main supplying the energy centre steam and hot water boilers (4 x 10 MW) and the two dryers (2 x 8.5 MW). The boilers and dryers were retrofitted by RCR with low emission digital controlled Weishaupt dual fuel burners. MTL’s role was to deliver the preliminary and detailed design, specifications and contracts, manage sub consultants, administer contracts, provide construction monitoring and commissioning services.
PROJECT OUTCOME:
The diesel fuel system was constructed in stages over four years from 2016 to 2020 to suit planned production outages and CAPEX constraints. Northland contractors were engaged where practical to deliver the diesel fuel system which was broken into six work packages.
